SimpMusic Wear OS lets you browse and play music on the watch, with an optional Android companion for sign-in and controls. The companion follows the watch’s player; it does not turn this release into a phone music player.
These instructions target 0.3.0-beta.1, version code 41. Download the watch and companion from that same release. It contains three watch APK choices and one companion APK. The SimpMusic page has screenshots and direct downloads.
Choose one watch APK
| File ending | Choose it for |
|---|---|
armeabi-v7a.apk |
A watch whose Android OS supports ARMv7 |
arm64-v8a.apk |
A watch whose Android OS supports ARM64 |
arm-universal.apk |
Either supported ARM ABI, with a larger download |
The full filenames begin SimpMusic-WearOS-0.3.0-beta.1-. These are complete APKs: install one of them. The universal file contains both supported ARM architectures; it is not an extra package to install alongside the other two.
A 64-bit processor can still run a 32-bit watch OS. With ADB connected, check what Android reports:
adb -s WATCH_ID shell getprop ro.product.cpu.abilist
Replace WATCH_ID with the watch entry from adb devices. The maintainer’s Galaxy Watch4 Classic test configuration used the ARMv7 package. Do not assume another model or software installation has the same ABI.
Install and try guest playback
Follow the wireless APK installation guide to pair and connect the watch, then install your selected download:
adb -s WATCH_ID install -r SimpMusic-WearOS-0.3.0-beta.1-arm-universal.apk
Use your actual filename if you chose a smaller ABI-specific APK. On Windows PowerShell, run .\adb.exe from the platform-tools folder if adb is not on your PATH. Google’s Wear OS Wi-Fi guide covers the connection steps.
Open SimpMusic on the watch. Guest browsing and playback do not require signing in on the phone. Online browsing and streaming need internet access. Start with a track you can recognize, then try the queue and playback controls before setting up your account.
Add the Android companion
Install SimpMusic-Companion-0.3.0-beta.1.apk on the paired Android phone. Its APK supports multiple phone ABIs, so there is no separate companion architecture to choose. Keep the phone’s device ID distinct from the watch’s if you install through ADB.
Open the companion and complete Google sign-in. On the watch, open Accounts → Sync session from phone and keep the phone reachable until the watch acknowledges the sync. The companion depends on the normal Wear OS phone pairing and Google Play services connection.
There is no full-phone playback APK in this release and no iPhone companion. Both supplied apps use io.github.rahyan.simpmusicwear; older upstream packages and .dev builds keep separate data and do not automatically migrate into this release.
Downloads, updates and beta limits
Individual track downloads are available, while automatic playlist refresh and cleanup remain experimental. Cleanup starts disabled. Check that your tracks have finished downloading and test them without a connection before relying on offline playback.
Use the release’s SHA256SUMS to check downloaded bytes. Keep the publisher’s signing identity when updating; a differently signed build cannot simply replace an existing install while retaining its data. Do not uninstall to resolve a signature conflict before considering what you would lose.
The maintainer checked playback and companion controls on a Galaxy Watch4 Classic and Galaxy S23. Other hardware, smaller displays and headphone reconnection still need testing. Playback also depends on YouTube’s services and may change when those services change.
If something fails, report the app version, watch/phone models and the last action that worked through the project’s issue templates. Keep account tokens and sign-in cookies out of the report. Corresponding source and licensing are available in the pinned release source.
